Month 47 Overhead

June has me traveling from Cancun, Mexico to Lago de Jojoa in Honduras via Belize, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

Notable events include:

  • Traveled about 1600 miles
  • I paid for a place to sleep — bed or camping — every night of the month except for one at a cost of $335 ($11.50 per night)
  • I stayed in eleven different hostels/hotels with the least expensive private bed costing $15 per night (at Hotel Backpackers in Rio Dulce, Guatemala) and the most costing $42 (at the Bakadeer Inn in Belize City, Belize)
  • Eating and drinking in these countries averaged about $11.50 per day
  • Fuel, tolls, and insurance cost about $0.11 per mile this month
  • The average cost of visiting an archeological site, waterfall, nature preserve, or beach was about $14 with the least expensive being the volcano Pacaya in Antigua, Guatemala ($6) and the most expensive being the nature park Semuc Champey and Kam’ba Caves ($27)
  • I broke the rear mud guard on the bike and threw it away
  • I replaced a USB to Lightning cable at an authorized Apple dealer in San Salvador, El Salvador for $40!
  • Paying the hostel staff to launder my clothes costs about $4 three times per month
  • Four border crossings cost almost $100 in official fees, document copies, and tolls
