July has me traveling from Lago de Yojoa, Honduras to Panama City, Panama via Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

Notable events include:

  • Traveled about 1700 miles
  • I paid for a place to sleep every night of the month at a cost of $340 ($11 per night)
  • I stayed in ten different hostels/hotels with the least expensive private bed costing $10 per night (at Hostal Azteca in San Jorge, Nicaragua on Lago de Nicaragua) and the most costing $25 (at Casa Tranquilo in Monte Verde, Costa Rica)
  • Eating and drinking in these three countries averaged about $13 per day
  • Fuel, tolls, and insurance cost about $0.12 per mile this month
  • The average cost of visiting an archeological site, waterfall, nature preserve, or beach was about $6
  • SCUBA diving at Isla Coiba in Panama cost about $60 per dive
  • In Monteverde, Costa Rica, a zip-line canopy tour cost $45 and a bungee jump $62
  • Surfboard rentals along the cost of Costa Rica cost about $15 a day
  • Haircuts cost about $6 and laundry $1 per kilo
  • Three border crossings cost about $30 in official fees, document copies, and tolls ($7 more for helpers)
