Month 48 Overhead
July has me traveling from Lago de Yojoa, Honduras to Panama City, Panama via Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
Notable events include:
- Traveled about 1700 miles
- I paid for a place to sleep every night of the month at a cost of $340 ($11 per night)
- I stayed in ten different hostels/hotels with the least expensive private bed costing $10 per night (at Hostal Azteca in San Jorge, Nicaragua on Lago de Nicaragua) and the most costing $25 (at Casa Tranquilo in Monte Verde, Costa Rica)
- Eating and drinking in these three countries averaged about $13 per day
- Fuel, tolls, and insurance cost about $0.12 per mile this month
- The average cost of visiting an archeological site, waterfall, nature preserve, or beach was about $6
- SCUBA diving at Isla Coiba in Panama cost about $60 per dive
- In Monteverde, Costa Rica, a zip-line canopy tour cost $45 and a bungee jump $62
- Surfboard rentals along the cost of Costa Rica cost about $15 a day
- Haircuts cost about $6 and laundry $1 per kilo
- Three border crossings cost about $30 in official fees, document copies, and tolls ($7 more for helpers)
