The Houston Greek Festival, celebrating with Greek food, music, and folk dances every year since 1966

Going Greek

Houston’s annual Greek Festival was in full-swing this weekend. Eric and I joined our friends for an evening of Greek food and wine. We toured the cathedral and also sat down to a show of folk dancing and singing.

Music? Dancing? Wine? The Greeks and I are going to get along just fine! They even sell branded wine bottle koozies. So, drink up! And enjoy the festival!

Greek food is not light food. Great-tasting meats, cheeses, and oils adorn even the healthiest of Greek salads. If you’re not watching your calories, try one of everything. And then go for broke with a layered pastry or deep fried dessert doused in honey and powdered sugar.

I remember from the Kansas City Greek Festival that Greek wine is much better than Greek beer. I can’t say how happy we were to find local microbrew at the Houston Greek Festival.

We sat behind a married couple during the dance show. Their shirts made me chuckle.
